The site, appropriately named BuySellandBarter.com opened for business December 1, 2010. The site intends to give craigslist some needed competition. BuySellandBarter takes the bad out by not providing a personal ads section.
Craigslist is used by millions of people to buy and sell products successfully. However, in addition to having a classified section, craigslist also provides a personals section where people can meet others for many different reasons. There has been numerous news accounts of illegal services that have been advertised within the personal ads section of craigslist.
BuySellandBarter.com takes the approach of only providing a free online service that allows people to buy, sell and barter their legitimate products and legitimate services. The site also has a jobs section where employers can post legitimate employment opportunities as well as having a Community Events section.
The site takes a very local approach by requiring each listing to be posted with a specific 5-digit zip code area. Searches are currently limited to 5-digit zip codes, although an upcoming enhancement will permit 25, 50 or 100 mile radius searches from a given 5-digit zip code. The site also has a section that permits local contractors to advertise their services to their local communities. Local residents are always in need of finding a local contractor for many different reasons.
BuySellandBarter.com was designed and developed by Dennis and Barbara White, parents of four grown children. The White’s believe that their site provides the online community with a much needed service.
