Smarter Barter Series Needs Some Work
Smarter Barter is doing a good thing by putting videos up of their members and what they offer, but I have a couple of criticisms:
First, don’t make a video with one of your part cash customers. Your other clients find out you allow part cash transactions and everyone will want to follow suit. It’s just bad for business.
Second, make the video a little more interesting. They’re boring.
Check it out for yourself.

The video is fine in my opinion, it’s just an honest interview capturing a satisfied user. Many people will like this approach.
Thanks King Of The Wild Frontier for your comments. This was the second out of about 40 I filmed and apologise if it is boring, I aasked Dilip if he could sing a Bollywood song but alas, no dice.
I disagree re your second comment about advertising part trade/ part cash, we allow product sellers to cover a % of their cash costs when their profit margins are small (Dilip sells copy paper at 50/50 even though his margin is just 20%), it is fair and acceptable to all with education.
Thanks John, it does work and appreciate your feedback.
I think you hit the nail on the head right at the beginning, “are doing a good thing by putting videos up” - a video of the business, even if it is amateur, is far better more interesting than a paragraph of text on a page. I think you’ll find that SmarterBarter is an open, member focussed system so accepts part trade. I’ve seen members in some trade systems totally exclude some products, like ink cartridges, or inflate the trade price to do them on 100%. Taking part trade seems a more sensible and normal option to me. Thanks for highlighting the video.
I think the emails are honest and truthful. Not full of marketing hype. People should know the full story.
Hi, I am Chris and I am in one of the videos and I claim to be one of the most boring but I am also full trade. These videos are very local and if you look at the videos overall it gives you a really good and honest representation of the clients of Smarter Barter. In fact, overall, there is a nice effect of honest and open interviews.
Great spirits will always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds. Give me plain people with an honest message over sensationalized sales hype any day … Sigh!
