Detroit Dollars Underway
The besieged motor city has faced terrible times for a while now. Industry leaving. Residents fleeing. Bears. Yeah, bears.
In an attempt to help the local community make up cash shortages, Detroit is considering printing its own community currency. The Bucharest Grill, Park Bar, and Motor City Pub in downtown Detroit have done prototypes that became popular enough that the city took notice and are considering an official city currency.
The new motto of the currency could be, “What you use to pay in Detroit, stays in Detroit.” It’s all a scheme to keep business local, which is a laudable effort.
The new currency is anticipated to be printed by a non-profit and a bank would issue the notes and hold it in storage. More details as they emerge.
